RAFFADALI
Raffadali,
420m asl and some 14,000 inhabitants, is in the province of Agrigento,
in a dominant position over the Drago Valley. It is a mainly agricultural
centre with developed commercial businesses as well. In the 11th
century, still an hamlet called Rahal, it was ceded to the noble
Montapertos, who possessed it until the abolishment of the Feudalism.
Several folkloristic events are much awaited in town. Among these
are the Carnival and Easter’s Day.
Several
sites of naturalistic and archaeological interest stand in the city
environs, notably in the mounts Guastanella(602m), Giafaglione (674m),
Banco (526m) and Grotticelle (636m).
The
city’s most attractive building is the Chiesa Madre, dedicated
to the Madonna degli Infermi.
